Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro

At 5895 meters, Kilimanjaro is not only the highest mountain and volcano in Africa, making it one of the “Seven Summits”, but also the highest freestanding mountain above sea level. Again and again, there were attempts by Europeans to climb the mountain. The German missionary Johannes Rebmann is said to have been the first European to report on Kilimanjaro in 1848 and also tried to reach the summit with Johann Krapf. Unfortunately unsuccessful. Various expeditions followed between 1861 and 1889 to finally conquer the mountain. In 1889, the German geology professor Hans Meyer returned to Kilimanjaro for the third time with the Austrian mountaineer Ludwig Purtscheller. During this excursion, they used different campsites with food supplies, so several attempts at the summit could be made. In October 1889 they finally reached the crater rim. In total, their expedition lasted 16 days over 4,600 meters.

Today you can reach the summit of Kilimanjaro via 5 different routes. Depending on your physical condition, within 5-6 days.

All of the team were exceptional, our tour guides……Luki and Hassan, were explaining us all about the mountain’s secrets, climate, vegetation, hidden stories and treasures, were taking care of us, watching us and our strength, even carring my backback when i felt weak……I can’t imagine getting any better than this…
