Birdwatching Safari

A bird watching in Tanzania, the slightly different safari, is characterized by the uniqueness of the environment. While you watch the colorful plumage and dances of the male birds, the various flight maneuvers and hunting habits of the birds, you have also the fantastic animal world of the African continent such as lions, elephants, giraffes and zebras in front of the lens as a small side effect.

Day – Arrival in Arusha

Arusha National Park is the smallest of the 22 national parks in Tanzania. Characterized by the impressive Mount Meru, which at 4562 meters is the third highest mountain in Tanzania, and the Momella Lakes. The park is home to a large number of giraffes, leopards, which are most solitary & hidden, black and white colobus monkeys, warthogs, zebras, buffalo, hippos and elephants. Over 400 species of birds, such as Narina Trongon, Helmeted Guinea Fowl and Silver-Cheeked Hornbill can be seen here. Day 2 – Tarangire Nationalpark (Game Drive and Walking Safari)

The Tarangiere National Park is particularly worth seeing in the dry season, as the Tarangiere River, which is always full, attracts animals from the neighboring regions in droves. In addition to the large herds of elephant, impala and kudu, can also lions, hyenas and cheetahs be observed here. Not to be neglected are the more than 545 bird species. The park harbors several dry-country bird species, such as the Northern Pied Babbler, Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse, Northern White-crowned Shrike and Vulturine Guineafowl.

After another morning game drive, you leave the Tarangire National park and continue to follow to Lake manyara National park.

Day 4 – Lake Manyara National park (Game Drive)

Lake Manyara National Park lies between Lake Manyara and the Great Rift Valley. It covers an area of 325 km2, of which around 230 km2 are lakes. In the rainy season, the lake can reach a depth of 3.0 m, covering two thirds of the park. Lake Manyara National Park is known for flocks of thousands of flamingos that feed at the lake’s edge during the rainy season, the great white pelican and approximately 1,000,000 to 2,500,000 individual waterfowl. The aquifer forest north of the lake is a known breeding ground for thousands of Pink-Backed Pelicans, Silvery-Cheecked Hornbill, Yellow-Billed Storks, and smaller numbers of Marabou Storks, African Spoonbill and Gray Herons.
A special feature of the national park are the tree-climbing lions.

Overnight at Karatu Village

Day 5 – Ngorongoro Crater (Game Drive)

The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest continuous caldera in the world. The attractive landscape of the crater and the impressive concentration of wild animals such as elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo and huge herds of wildebeest and zebra that migrate across the steppes every year during their migration is fantastic. With a bit of luck you can even see the endangered black rhino. In 1959, the area was established for multiple land use, where wild animals and semi-nomadic Maasai herders coexist.

The Ngorongoro Crater offers an excellent opportunity for bird watching. There are about 500 different birds here. For example, the crater is home to a number of specialized grassland birds, such as the extraordinary Ostrich, Kori Bustard, Crowned Crane, Black – Headed Heron and Secretary Bird.

After this delightful excursion, drive back to Arusha.

Day 6 – Arusha City Tour

Named after a local Maasai clan, Arusha is the third largest city in Tanzania. The city gained notoriety through the 1962 movie “Hatari” starring Hardy Krüger and John Wayne. Today Arusha is the center of Tanzanian tourism. On the walk through Arusha’s city center we will show you, among other things, the clock tower, the Maasai market and the lively weekly market and will end our 6-day tour together.
